Since 1995, The Grand Appeal has helped to transform the lives of sick babies and children at Bristol Children’s Hospital and the Special Care Baby Unit, providing life-saving equipment, patient activities, new services and family accommodation. 2016 also marks the 150th anniversary of the very first children’s hospital in Bristol.

Bristol Children’s Hospital is one of the UK’s leading children’s hospitals, treating over 100,000 patients every year from across the South West, South Wales and beyond with life-threatening illnesses, and serving as the paediatric intensive care centre for the whole South West region. The hospital is an international specialist centre of excellence for a range of services including neurosurgery, burns, cardiac, leukaemia and bone marrow transplants.

The Grand Appeal provides ground-breaking facilities at the Hospital, including the South of England’s only 3T MRI scanner and intra-operative scanning suite, which has revolutionised the treatment of children with neurological conditions requiring highly complex surgery and a pioneering Cardiac Hybrid Theatre and Integrated Cancer Unit, meaning a sick child can receive all of their treatment in one place.

We are committed to keeping families together while their child is cared for, having funded over £1 million of family facilities and accommodation at both Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Special Care Baby Unit.
